Buying a home is a big decision, and it’s important to take the necessary steps to ensure a successful experience. As a buyer, it’s crucial to do your research and understand the home buying process. Here are some steps to take when buying a house.

1. Find a real estate agent

Many people say establish a budget first .. but I say, find a great real estate agent that can help you identify all of the professionals that you need to help you through the biggest purchase of your life. Realtors can help introduce you to a few lender partners that you can interview to see who has the best rates, the best programs .. and the personality for you and your family. 

2. Determine your budget

Before you start looking for a home, it’s important to determine your budget. This will help you narrow down your search and prevent you from wasting time looking at homes that are outside of your price range. Consider factors such as your income, expenses, and any other financial obligations you have. You lender will be able to help run all the numbers to help you feel comfortable with a purchase price.

3. Get pre-approved for a mortgage

Once you have determined your budget, you should get pre-approved for a mortgage. This will help you know how much you can borrow and what your monthly payments will be. A pre-approval letter can also make you a more attractive buyer to sellers.

4. Start looking for homes

Once you have your budget .. the FUN starts! You and your agent can start looking for homes. Make a list of what you are looking for in a home and prioritize your wants and needs. This will help you narrow down your search and find the perfect home for you.

5. Make an offer

When you find a home that you love, it’s time to make an offer. Your agent can help you with this process and negotiate the best price for you.

6. Get a home inspection

Before closing on the home, it’s important to get a home inspection. This will help you identify any potential issues with the home and address them before you finalize the purchase.

7. Close on the home

Once the inspection is complete and any issues have been addressed, it’s time to close on the home. This is where you sign all of the necessary documents and officially become a homeowner. Wahoo!
